One day awareness programme for women farmers held at Rehmbal

UDHAMPUR, Sept 27: An awareness programme for women farmers was today organized here at Panchayat Ghar Upper Rehambal, zone Jib.
The awareness programme was attended by Chief Agriculture Officer, S C Sharma, SMS DL Arun Samyal, AEO Jib, Yashpal Gupta along with PRI Members and representatives of NGO.
As many as 50 women farmers participated in the event. The scope and prospects regarding agricultural activities, different schemes/ programmes being implemented by the department for the welfare of the farming community were discussed in detail. The participants were encouraged to form Self Help groups for availing incentives under different schemes viz ODOP(One District One Product), Custom Hiring Centres and Farm Machinery Banks with the available incentives of 35%, 40%, and 80% respectively.
During the programme, the farmers were advised for adoption of crop diversification/integrated farming system model approach for ensuring optimal/efficient utilization of farm resources and agriculture inputs for reducing the cost of cultivation and searching for better marketing avenues for sale of products & by-products by following good agricultural practices (GAP).
In order to supplement farmers income through non-farm activity like Mushroom cultivation detailed understanding was given with reference to its cultivation & scope of its marketing & financial benefit.
On spot instructions were issued to field staff for registering interested farm women/ farmers. Further, the farmers were informed that Mushroom Development Scheme is being run by the department for providing technical knowhow to them for its successful cultivation at the individual level.
Responding to the farmers' complaint regarding the monkey menace, they were asked to go for alternative lemon grass crop cultivation. They were made aware of its cultivation aspects, output product i.e. essential oil & scope of its marketing and financial benefit over traditional crops. For this also farmers were asked to approach AEO Jib for its cultivation.
