| Jats to vote for parties promising OBC status | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 2: Declaring that Jat Kalyan Sabha would vote and support only that party which concedes the demand of granting OBC status to the community, the working president of the Jat Kalyan Sabha said that this status has already been granted to Jats in several states including Rajasthan, Delhi, UP, HP, HP and Gujrat. Addressing media persons here today Sabha working president Ch. Dewan Singh said that the community has been pleading for grant of OBC status to Jats of Jammu and Kashmir and regretted this genuine demand has been relegated to the background. He said the sabha has decided to vote and support only that party which concedes its demand. He said the community which mainly migrated from Chhamb and Deva Batala in 1947, 1965 and 1971 were rehabilitated on Indo-Pak border that too on barren land from Kathua to Jhanger Nowshera and Mendhar Poonch. He regretted that the educational institutions which catered to the need of education always remained without teaching staff and basic infrastructure as a result the children of the community remained without education from generation to generation even after independence. He said Jats have been lagging behind in every sphere of life and granting OBC status would heel their wounds. |
