| Integrated check posts to come up along Indo-Nepal border | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT MAHARAJGANJ, Nov 02: In a bid to contain incidents of crime on the porous Indo-Nepal border, the Ministry of External Affairs has embarked upon an ambitious plan to establish an integrated check post here on the India-Nepal border on the lines of similar check posts at Wagah and Indo-Bangladesh border. The project, which is implemented by the Ministry of External Affairs through Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) is spread over an area of 188 acres. The Work for the check post on the Nautanwa-Sonauli border in Maharajganj district which costs a little over Rs 9 crore, is likely to begin with possession of the land by the end of this year, sources said. Apart from this project in Maharajganj, integrated check posts are also expected to come up at Rupaidiah (also in Uttar Pradesh) and Raxaul and Jogani, both in Bihar. According to sources, the check post will be almost 1.25 kilometres in length and will cover three villages; Sukhrauli, Jugauli and Kautaliya. Nearly 150 households will be affected by the project. The Commandant of the 11 battalion of SSB, B S Toliya said, "The integrated check posts on Indo-Nepal border will be made on the lines of check posts at Wagah and Indo-Bangladesh border." The integrated check posts will house offices of Sashastra Seema Bal, Customs, Immigration, Police and other security agencies. It will also have an X-ray machine using which vehicles could be scanned and checked. |
