| EU delegation to visit J&K next week | | |
New Delhi, Sep 13 A European Union delegation will be visiting Jammu and Kashmir next week to assess the economic situation of the state, which has been ravaged by militancy for over a decade now.
The visit of EU-Troika to the Kashmir valley is an annual feature during which a team of the European Envoys hold talks with the state government and separatists leaders.
Talking to PTI after an hour-long meeting with Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, European Commission Ambassador Francisci da Camra Gomes said "we discussed the forthcoming visit of the EU delegation to Kashmir." "Its a fact finding team which makes an on-the-spot assessment of the situation in the state including its economic growth," Gomes, who was leading a four-member EU delegation, said.
The EU Trokia is a group that represents the European Commission and the current and future Presidencies of the European Council, on behalf of the EU as a whole.
The present term of Presidentship in the EC is with Finland, which was represented by its Second Secretary Anna Hekinan at the meeting with the Home Minister.
Gomes said the EU delegation will try to get more information about the building of necessary infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir especially after the earthquake that rocked the state on October eight last year.
The other members of the delegation were Minister in German Embassy Julias George Lui and First Secretary in the Portugal Mission Lui Manual Sequeira. |
