Deep drain project ill-conceived, wastage of money; allege Vijay Nagar residents
10/3/2021 11:08:18 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 3: The residents of Vijay Nagar, Lane No 2, Camp Road, Talab Tillo, Jammu have expressed grave concern over the construction of a deep drain project in their locality.
Several residents of the area said that UEED under the ambit of JMC is constructing a deep drain through their mohalla comprising of Ward No 32 and Ward No 40. They alleged that the project has been ill-conceived and unnecessary extra financial burden has been put on the exchequer. They claimed that number of times the genuine problems, apprehensions and grievances of the habitants have been discussed with the concerned officers in the month of December 2020 and it was resolved that the alignment and course line of this drain shall be revisited and it will be diverted through BSNL Colony which has ample empty space for this drain to pass.
"We did lodge a grievance vide no 999001752510 dated 27-12-2020 on the LG Grievance Portal but the reply we got from Chief Engineer was astonishing. Chief Engineer thinks public grievances are a futile exercise," they informed.
"We also brought our grievance to the notice of Advisor (B) to LG and subsequently he instructed both Commissioner JMC and Chief Engineer UEED to look into the grievance of the public and address them but afraid both the officers didn't bother to contact the affected people directly or through their representatives and against that Chief Engineer UEED replied the grievance as disposed off on the report of Executive Engineer as a viable project and even wrote that drains are constructed by JMC," they added.
They further said that a separate grievance was also lodged on JMC Complaint Portal as well vide no JMC24027 which shows that it has been "forwarded to the concerned for action".
No consideration has been given to the fact that the exit flow point of the deep drain under construction does not permit the water and effluent to exit fully because of squeezed outlet due to less space available, they added.
The local residents requested the authorities to revisit the DPR and divert the deep drain to same alternative route available.
