| On poll review mission, Vohra tours Bandipore, Anantnag | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Nov 4: As part of his ongoing schedule of visiting each of the Districts in the Kashmir Valley to review the security situation and the arrangements being made for the ensuing Assembly Elections, Governor N.N. Vohra, today visited Bandipora and Anantnag and held meetings with the senior officials. Addressing the senior District Officers, the Governor called for making effective arrangements for the conduct of peaceful polls. He reiterated that the State Administration was committed to ensuring free and fair elections. The District Election Officer (DEO), Bandipora, Sheikh Mushtaq Ahmad, gave a detailed presentation on the arrangements put in place for the smooth conduct of Elections. He said that the District has an electorate of 1, 87,388 for which 245 polling stations, including auxiliary polling stations, have been planned in the three Assembly segments. He also gave an overview of the security arrangements made in the District. The District Election Officer said that three- member committees have been constituted at the district and tehsil levels to monitor the enforcement of the model Code of Conduct. He said that the security arrangements have been made in accordance with the sensitivity of the polling stations. He also briefed about the Transport Plan, including the plan for aerial sorties in the case of snowfall for airlifting the poll material to the respective polling stations. The DEO informed the Governor that necessary poll material, including Electronic Voting Machines, have been distributed among the Returning Officers. For this purpose the distribution and collection centres have already been identified. Necessary lodging, boarding and catering arrangements have been made for the polling staff, he added. The Governor also held discussions with senior Police, Central Police and Army Officers and reviewed the security arrangements made in the district. At Anantnag, Vohra assessed the overall security scenario and sought appraisal of the poll preparedness in the district. He held extensive discussions with the District Administration and directed for making foolproof arrangements to facilitate the voters to exercise their democratic right under the Phase-V on December 17. The Governor asked the District Election Officer (DEO) to ensure close coordination between the various agencies engaged with the Electoral process in the district. |
