JAMMU, Nov 4: Five Assembly segments of Kupwara district in Kashmir valley, for which Notification has been issued today, will go to polls on November 30 during the third phase of J&K Assembly elections 2008. These constituencies are Karnah, Kupwara, Lolab, Handwara and Langate.
While November 11, 2008 has been fixed as the last date for making nominations, scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on November 12 and the last date for withdrawal of candidatures will be November 14. Polling, if necessary, will take place on November 30.
A total of 448 polling booths are being set up across the North Kashmir district of Kupwara in which 3,41,946 electors are expected to exercise their franchise. Of these,
1, 78, 557 are male and 1, 63,389 are female voters. The total electorate includes 942 service electors (697 male and 245 female voters), who are also expected to exercise their right to vote.
Kupwara Assembly segment leads the district with the largest electorate of 90,805 which includes 47,131 male and 43,674 female voters. Karnah constituency has a total registered electorate of 26,897 out of which 13,845 are male and 13,052 female voters. Around 111 polling stations are being set up in Kupwara segment while as 58 polling booths will be established in Karnah to facilitate voters on polling day.
In Lolab constituency, 85,855 voters, which include 45,338 male and 40,517 female voters, are expected to vote in the coming elections. As many as 110 polling booths will be established in the Assembly segment.
A total of 78,151 registered voters will vote from Handwara Assembly segment. Of these 40,579 are male and 37,572 female voters. A total of 93 polling stations will be set up in Handwara.
In Langate Assembly segment, 76 polling booths will be set up to facilitate 60,238 voters during the third phase of voting. Out of these, 31,664 are male while as 28,574 are female voters.
