| JKFA elections: DFA Anantnag brings stay order | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Nov 5: The upcoming election of the Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA) has received the hiccups due to the court stay invoked by District Football Association (DFA), Islamabad (Anantnag) on conducting the elections. However, JKFA is determined to go ahead with the elections as they believe that the stay order is based on fake records. The elections are scheduled to be held on November eight (Saturday) as per notification JKFA: 68/5334 issued by JKFA on October 20. However, DFA Islamabad brought the election process to halt with the stay order from district court on the grounds that JKFA have deleted 20 associate members of DFA Islamabad eligible for votes. As per the JKFA constitution, only those members are eligible for votes that have more than five years of registration with the central body. However, resident secretary has issued a communication addressed to secretary JKFA whereby list of associate members and district members of Kashmir wing eligible for votes have been released. However, the list prepared by resident secretary JKFA has deleted as many as 20 associate members of DFA Islamabad which has prompted the court action. DFA Islamabad in their court order state that their 33 teams as associate members have more than five years of registration and are eligible for votes. "We had been provided with 29 votes in 2004 but this time only nine votes have been given to us. JKFA issued the notification whereby they are denying us the right to vote," said secretary DFA Islamabad, Kaiser Ahmad. He further said that the Association is denying us the right to vote for their own vested interests. "The JKFA has deliberately omitted 20 associate members only to accommodate their blue eyed persons. The Association fears that DFA Islamabad may elect their own candidate in the elections," said Kaiser. The DFA Islamabad, as per the statement in the stay order, had requested resident secretary to redress the grievance which he declined and instead were asked to approach the court. The refusal of redressing the matter has prompted the state order. Wishing anonymity, one of the officials of the JKFA said that the association have deleted the eligible members and accommodated the members who are not eligible for the votes. "Elections are set to be farcical as the members not eligible for votes have been accommodated in the list," he said. Treasurer JKFA, Fayaz Ahmad Sofi, admitted that 20 associate members of the DFA Islamabad have been deleted as the district has no record of the teams and registration. Reacting to the stay order Sofi said that the elections will go ahead as the stay order is based on baseless allegations. "We had formed the committee of six members early this year to check the records of every district for the eligibility of the votes. It was observed that DFA Islamabad had framed the fake records of the matches and the clubs for their registration. We seized the files of registration," Sofi said. He further said that there has been omission and the addition of the voters in certain districts as per the records of registration and league matches available with the District Association. "Every year the clubs have to register with their respective district association for the registration. There is a proper procedure of registration which includes filing of the form along with the photograph and submitting the fee. The clubs have to play the league matches to keep the registration intact. The cub also has to keep the registration intact for four years to have the voting rights," said Sofi. Sofi said that during the tournaments DFA could only field eight teams and instead of eight we have given them the right of nine votes. "They have framed the fake registration records," said Sofi. |
