| Rapist convicted, lodged in Jail | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Nov 5: District Sessions Judge Ganderbal Muhammad Nazir Fida today convicted Ghulam Nadirs Ganai son of Amma Ganai resident of Haran Ganderbal under section 376/ RPC. However, the quantum of punishment will be announced on November 12, 2008.
Giving facts of the case, a police spokesman from Ganderbal said that on June 26, 2003 one Ghulam Muhammad Ganai son of Abdul Rehman Ganai resident of Haran Ganderbal lodged a written complaint with police station Ganderbal alleging therein that his daughter namely Zareefa, a virgin, had gone to the residence of a neighbor identified as Ghulam Qadir Ganai son of Amma Ganai resident of Haran where the latter raped her and after some time got her abortion conducted to hide the crime committed by him.
On receipt of the complaint, the spokesman said, a formal criminal case was registered against the accused and after concluding the investigation, challan was produced in the court of law for judicial determination. After facing trial for about five years the accused has been convicted and lodged in Central Jail, Srinagar, he added. |
