| 4 MPs may eventually enter race | | ELECTIONS 2008 | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 5: At the time of the Assembly polls junior political leaders look up to their mentors and senior party leaders to guide them fight elections and also recommend their names to the party high command to ensure they get party mandate to contest polls. Surprisingly, none of it is happening in Jammu and Kashmir. A cursory look at the list of party candidates or aspirants whose names have been cleared by various political parties clearly indicate that instead of recommending names of second rung junior leaders several senior leaders who are sitting MP’s and once occupied seat of Member Parliament are once again in the race of becoming a ‘Vidhayak’. Starting with Congress party, which is ready to field sitting party MP Choudhary Lal Singh from Kathua Assembly constituency and former MP Choudhary Mohammed Aslam from Surankote, National Conference too has decided to launch father son duo -Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah- in the fray in order to build favourable campaign in their support. Both the leaders are star campaigners of the party and together they can woo voters in a much better way than anyone else. BJP leaders, not willing to stay behind, have already cleared name of former MP and former state BJP Chief and Union Minister of state for Defence Prof Chaman Lal Gupta form Jammu West constituency. PDP-former coalition partner of Congress has also given its mandate to former Rajya Sabha MP Trilok Singh Bajwa. Similarly former MP Thupstan Chhewang from Ladakh is also in the fray as LUTF candidate. |
