| Shove NC out of region: Mehbooba tells Rajouri-Poonch | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
SURANKOTE/MENDHAR, Nov 5: Cautioning the people against evil designs of those who have been dividing the masses in the name of castes and communities for petty political, president of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti today exhorted the people to give a befitting reply to such forces.
Addressing series of public meetings at Surankote and Mendhar assembly constituencies in support of party candidates Dr Mumtaz Bukhari and Rafiq Hussain Khan, Mehbooba Mufti said that instead of dividing people in the name of Gujjars, Paharies and Rajput for furthering political gains, her party seeking mandate of the people on the basis of performance and promises which were fulfilled by PDP led regime after formation of coalition government.
"For years together some vested interests have been exploiting sentiments of the gullible people and it is high time to teach lesson to such forces as they are responsible for their backward", she asked the people."PDP had promised to disband notorious STF and to violation of human rights at any cost", she recalled and added that party has fulfilled its promises and restored dignity and honour of the common masses by stopping atrocities.
Reiterating her party's commitment to remove regional disparities, she promised to make institutional arrangement to create equal opportunities of development and upliftment for all regions and sub-regions of the State. "After formation of coalition regime in 2002
many steps were taken to remove regional imbalances", she said but hastened to add that lot more needed to be done to remove backwardness of some sub-regions within the regions.
"Since its formation PDP has been advocating devolution of powers to empower the common masses and ensure their participation in the democratic institutions", she said, adding, "Creating an atmosphere of peace and harmony in the State where people live with honour and dignity is the main agenda of PDP".
Lambasting NC for betraying people for the lust of power, she said, "We are not for getting power by sacrificing wishes and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir", she asserted and made it clear that PDP was committed to restore peace in the State with dignity and honour of the common masses. "PDP through its policies and programmes convinced both India and Pakistan to take Confidence Building Measures
(CBMs) and accelerate peace process in the sub-continent", she said.
Party candidates Dr Mumtaz Bukhari and Rafiq Hussain Khan also addressed the meeting. During her whirlwind tour in these areas, Mehbooba Mufti was accorded rousing reception by the people at several places. People appreciated efforts of the PDP in opening LoC and completion of the Mugal road project which were a long cherished dream of the residents of these areas. |
