KVK Reasi organizes in-service training programme

JAMMU, Oct 19: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Reasi organized in-service training programme on “Entrepreneurship Development in Organic Farming” here today through virtual mode which was attended by a number of agriculture extension officers from line department. The programme was organized under the guidance of Director Extension SKUAST-J, Prof S K Gupta.
Scientist & Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal spoke in length on the scientific guidelines on commercial organic farming and narrated that there is dire need to adopt the eco-friendly agricultural practices so as to protect the soil, environment and human health. He briefed the principles and objectives of organic farming.
Banarsi said that the indiscriminate use of chemicals ultimately cause inverse impact on the human beings health and deteriorates the soil health and biodiversity. He spoke in length on organic fruits, vegetables, organic medicinal and aromatic plants and urged the participants to motivate the farmers for commercial organic farming so as to make more profits.
Banarsi highlighted the use of fruit fly traps, sticky traps, pheromone traps, neem cake, neem oil in the organic farming. He stressed on the use of farm yard manures (FYM), vermin-compost, bio-fertlizers, bio-fungicides, bio-pesticides in the soil for the commercial organic farming. He also spoke on crops rotation, pulses production, multiple cropping, microbial cultures, cow urine, Panchgavya, fermented butter milk etc. required in the organic farming.
Anil Thakur, Agriculture Extension Officer, Padder, Thuroo appreciated the efforts of KVK for organizing such types of useful programme. Later on an interactive session was also organized during which queries were raised by the officers which were answered by the scientist in a satisfactory manner.
