JAMMU, Nov 6: Government Railway Police on board several trains originating from Udhampur and Jammu are doubling up as railway ticket checkers and pocketing huge sums of money to take care of their miscellaneous expenses.
Daily passengers traveling on Jammu-Pathankot and Jallandhar Udhampur route are the biggest beneficiaries under this arrangement.
These GRP men have established a well knit network of passengers and extend them exclusive services at a premium, which eventually is always lower than the actual cost of the railway ticket.
Passengers traveling during day time on super fast and other outgoing trains also take benefits. Interestingly passengers need not search for these men. The GRP men on prowl will come to your service of their own.
Just wait for your turn in the queue till you get the lucrative offer.
The modus operandi of these GRP men is very simple. One of the key persons on duty will position himself at the ticket counter and while doing his duty he will randomly call passengers where are they heading. If a passenger says that he is traveling short distances and is in hurry the GRP men will guide him to a railway coach and direct him to step out of the queue. "Do not spend money on buying railway ticket we charge nominal fee and there is no risk involved", the GRP men will try his level best to convince you till you strike a deal and shake hands with him for smooth journey.
At the destination station these GRP men will escort you to the door step to ensure that you are not caught traveling without ticket. |
