Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 21: Vishal Khatri Sabha J&K has hailed State Administrative Council under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha approving that people associated with agriculture can sell their land to non-agriculturists which will open avenues of development and employment in Jammu and Kashmir. In a meeting of Sabha held in Jammu, Vishal Khatri Sabha J&K President Devender Seth while appreciating the decision said that for a long time there was a demand from the Mahajans, Khatris and Sikhs that they should be given the right to sell and buy agricultural land for investment in agriculture and related activities.
Seth maintained that LG Sinha with this decision has removed huge discrimination with Mahajans, Khatris and Sikhs as in our country, any people, anywhere in India can purchase land but it was extremely sad that Mahajans, Khatris and Sikhs of J&K union territory cannot purchase even one Marla of Agricultural land i.e. 1st, 2nd or 3rd rate land in this union territory whereas there is no such restriction on people belonging to other communities. Seth maintained that Khatri community of J&K has always played pivotal role in various fields and by their intelligence, honesty and hard work brought all round development in this union territory but it was a matter of criminal discrimination that they had been kept away from the field of agriculture. Seth expressed confidence that said allowing Mahajans, Khatris and Sikhs to buy and sell agricultural land will lead to multi-factorial benefits including agricultural advancement, financial growth and improved employment in Jammu & Kashmir. Khatri Sabha had been highlighting the demand to give rights to these communities at every administrative level right from Jammu & Kashmir to the Union Government. He said that these laws existed before the reorganization of the State which remained there even after the new laws of Union Territory were framed.
