| Mehbooba describes PDP as a ‘movement’ | | |
Early Times Report Poonch Nov 7 President of Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti today asked the people to compare three year regime of Mufti Mohammad Sayed with 30 years mis-rule of National Conference while casting their votes in the assembly elections. Mufti, who conducted whirlwind tour of Mandi, Phalera, Loran, Sabjaina, Digwar and other border areas of Poonch assembly constituency in support of party candidate Imtiyaz Bandey, said that in his three year tenure Mufti Mohammad Sayed has set an example of good governance. "Unlike previous regimes where corruption and nepotism were legitimized, Mufti Mohammad Sayed has brought transparency and accountability in his government", she said, adding, "Dignity and honour of the people were restored as notorious STF was disbanded and draconian laws like POTA were abolished". PDP chief, however, regretted that efforts of the Mufti Mohammad Sayed were spoiled by his successor Ghulam Nabi Azad to whom Sayed had handed over the power after completion of his three year tenure. "Jammu and Kashmir is passing through a crucial juncture and it is high time to elect a visionary leader like Mufti Mohammad Sayed as Chief Minister of the State to take this region on the path of development and economic growth", she said and termed PDP as a movement to change fate of the people of Jammu and Kashmir through its visionary policies for restoring lasting peace in this region. Mufti said that PDP was formed 1998 to provide an alternative to the National Conference which had miserable failed to come up to the expectations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Unlike previous National Conference regimes wherein corruption and backdoor appointments were routine affairs, PDP led regime brought transparency and accountability in the government, she said and recalled that massive recruitment drive were launched during his government but not even a single complaint of nepotism and backdoor appointment came to the notice of the authorities. Former Minister Moulvi Iftikar Hussain Ansari, Yashpal Sharma and local leaders addressed the gathering and asked the people to cast vote in favour of party candidate Imtiyaz Bandey.
