| Make proper arrangement for migrant voters: Pandey | | |
Early Times Report Jammu | Nov 07 Reviewing the poll arrangements for Kashmiri Pandits at a high level meeting here today, Divisional Commissioner, Sudhanshu Pandey exhorted upon all the departments to gear up their election related tasks so as to ensure free and smooth exercise of franchise by the Kashmiri Pandits, who are likely to caste their votes in all the seven phases of elections. Relief Commissioner Vinod Koul, District Election Officer, Jammu Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, Chief Engineer M&RE, General Manager J&K SRTC, Principal Government College of Education Canal road Jammu, Superintending Engineers of R&B, Hydraulics, Jammu, PHE and other senior officers of Revenue, Relief, Traffic and Police were present on the occasion. Informing about the bottlenecks in the election arrangements, Relief Commission said that out of nine special polling stations identified for KPs to caste their votes; one Chanderbhaga Community Hall needs to be changed, as it would not be available for all the seven phases. As an alternate it was decided to shift the polling station from Chanderbagha Community Hall to Government College for Engineering, Jammu. The strong room would be set up at College for Education at Canal Road Jammu where adequate security arrangements would be put in place. 406 EVMs would be lifted from the office of District Election Officer Jammu and stored in the strong room amidst tight security. DEO Jammu asked for a list of sectors where Sectoral Magistrates would be deployed during elections. MD JKSRTC asked for the details of the officers to whom the vehicles deputed for election duty would report. It was decided that all the polling parties and vehicles would assemble at the College for Education at Canal Road before proceeding to their respective polling stations. Stressing on speeding up the election drill for Kashmiri Pandits, Divisional Commissioner said that Relief Department should formulate a contingency plan for meeting any kind of emergency. He said that mobilization of additional security forces; health officers, ambulances etc should be made a part of the contingency plan. He said that Police department should make adequate security arrangements at the polling stations set up for KPs, which would be in addition to the normal polling stations in the district.
