| JNV Leh first in folk dance event | | Cluster cultural meet commences at Udhampur | |

The Cluster Level Cultural Meet, organized by the Jawahar Navodaya Vidayala (JNV) Sangthan, Department of Education (GOI), began here today. Over 90 students from nine Jawahar Navodaya Vidayalas of the State are participating in different performing art events. The Deputy Commissioner, Ajay Khajuria was the chief guest in the inaugural session while Chief Education Officer, Udhampur was the guest of honour. Assistant Commissioner, JNV Sangthan, Regional Office, Chandigarh, S. Harcharan Singh, Principals of JNV Rakh Jaganoo and Government HSS Jaganoo, President, Goverdhan Sangeet Natak Academy, Udhampur, Anand Khajuria were also present on the occasion. Complimenting the School management for organizing such a mega event in their institution, the Deputy Commissioner said that the cultural meet would provide a common platform to the students from across the state to exhibit their latent in a confident manner. He said co-curricular activities in the educational institutions play a vital role for overall personality development of the students. “Such activities help students to be more confident, expressive and knowledgeable”, he said and added that through cultural performances, students would be made aware about various issues that directly or indirectly affect our life style like environment degradation, globalization, population explosion, gender inequality and other social evils prevalent in the society. He hoped that winning teams of Cluster Level Cultural Meet would also excel at regional level cultural competition to be organized at Chandigarh in near future. The DC also distributed prizes among the winning teams in folk dance and puppetry competitions. The first prize in folk dance was bagged by JNV Leh while second and 3rd. prizes went in favour of JNV Udhampur and JNV Baramulla. Similarly, in Puppetry, JNV, Poonch clinched first prize while second prize was secured by JNV Udhampur.
