Large number of state government employees, who were initially skeptical over joining poll duties, are now stepping forward to make themselves available for the job.
The change of heart among section of state government employees has simply come through after the Election Commission of India decided to hike the poll duty fee from existing Rs 600 per day to Rs 10,000 in addition to free boarding and lodging facilities. To motivate the poll duty staff, the government has also decided to insure the employees.
Initially, poor response from the state government employees, coupled with poll boycott threat by various separatist groups in Kashmir valley, prevented state government employees from giving their consent. Now as the date of polling for the seven phase elections is drawing nearer large number of state government employees are urging their head of t he departments to include their name in the list of employees likely to join the poll duty.
The state government employees do not want to let go the opportunity of earning Rs 10, 000 and are now gearing up to join the poll duty. A group of state government employees consisting various departments said that they have conveyed their consent to their senior officials preparing the roaster of employees to be deputed for the poll duty.
