Principal District and Sessions Judge Udhampur, AK Shan , today convicted accused Raj Singh son of Jagat Ram resident of Lower Galyout Udhampur under Section 302/376/325/511/323 RPC and sentenced him to life imprisonment with a fine of rupees 20,000 or in default to undergo further one year rigorous imprisonment for making attempt to rape his brother’s wife Pushpa Devi and also brutally murdering his Aunti Rano Devi four years back on July 29, 2004 at Gahlyot village of Udhampur district.
Awarding the sentence, the Judge held that the prosecution has succeeded fairly to prove the guilt of the accused. Judge said that the manner in which the accused has made attempt to commit rape upon his own brother’s wife and later murdered his own Aunti is shocking and points out the heinous nature of offence committed by him.
According to the prosecution story, on July 29, 2004 the accused Raj Singh made attempt to commit rape upon his real brother’s wife Pushpa who was alone in the home at that time. After making hue and cry, the Aunti of accused came to the rescue of the victim. Accused attacked upon her Aunti Ranoo Devi with “Danda “and killed her on spot and also injured his brother’s wife seriously fracturing her arm. Pushpa Devi raised hue and cry and accused fled from the spot leaving her Aunti in pool of blood who was later shifted to hospital by neighbourers but doctors declared her as brought dead.
The matter was reported to Panchari police who registered case and investigated matter. During the police investigation, it was revealed that accused has committed crime and case of murder was registered against him who was convicted today. Public prosecutor G.R Khajuria, who appeared for the state submitted that the prosecution had examined more eight witnesses to prove the guilt of the accused.
