| CACEE discusses priority areas | | |

With the objective to decide upon the priority areas for the collaborative activities for 2008- 2009 in the light of University Grants Commission's 11th plan guidelines and focal areas of concern, the Centre for Adult, Continuing Education and Extension (CACE&E), University of Jammu today organized a meeting with various non-governmental organizations of Jammu region at the CACE&E Seminar Hall. The meeting which was chaired by Professor Poonam Dhawan, Director CACE&E, was attended by the representatives of over thirty NGOs from all the areas of Jammu region including Rajouri, Kathua, Udhampur, Billawar, R.S.Pura, Samba, Purmandal, Thanamandi,Bishnah, Marh, Jammu. Apprising the group about the nature and relevance of UGC programmes Prof Poonam Dhawan, said that by collaborating with the NGOs, the Centre wants to understand the need of the communities and functionaries at grass root level. Besides, she said there was a need to prioritize community level interventions, create and sustain linkages with them and forgoing partnership with them and pool the resources. The representatives of the NGOs came up with the focal issues and areas of intervention for undertaking the collaborative activities in their respective areas of work. They suggested that a certificate course in tour and travel could be started for the youth of the region to increase their employability. Besides, a short-term course on photography could also be started for the rural youth who could be benefited by it by working in tourism sector. Besides, the meeting also explored the possibility of starting computer literacy programmes in rural areas for the benefit of youth of the villages, orientation programmes for responsive governance for youth leaders, community leadership programs, advocacy programmes on drug abuse, waste management, value education, sanitation and income generating programmes could also be started.
Earlier, welcoming the participants, Dr. Kavita Suri, Assistant Director, Centre for adult, Continuing Education and Extension, University of Jammu, said that the CACE&E which was established in 1976, has come to be recognized as a key center for Extension and Field out reach programmes and has also developed meaningful linkages with the Postgraduate Departments, Colleges, Industry, government organizations, NGO's & Community and non-Government organization for quality of life
