| 2 J&K mountaineers selected for Alpine Camp | | |

Two J&K mountaineers, Sumit Khajuria and Abhishek Sharma have been selected by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi, an apex body for adventure sports in the country, for Alpine Climbing Camp. These two mountaineers from J&K are among the 21 selected from different parts of the country for the prestigious camp to be conducted by Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi (Uttarakhand) from November 25 to December eight. “The camp is being organized to impart latest techniques of Alpine climbing to the already trained and experienced climbers of the country during the winter season,” general secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K, Dr C K Khajuria told SAN. Sumit Khajuria, a senior climber of Mountaineering Association of J&K, is a highly qualified mountaineer of the state. He has successfully climbed a number of peaks including Cho-Cho Kang Nelda (20,674 ft) of Stock Kangri (20,186 ft). He has also done basic courses in skiing, water sports and judges course in Sport Climbing. Similarly, Abhishek Sharma, a management trainee at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Katra has done his mountaineering courses from Directorate of Mountaineering and Allied Sports, Manali in Himachal Pradesh; Himalyan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling (West Bengal) and Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports, Pahalgam (J&K) and is a very keen mountaineer.
