| Curfew-like situation in Srinagar | | |
Early Times Report Srinagar | Nov 7
Life in Kashmir valley remained paralysed for the second successive day today in the wake of the curfew-like restrictions imposed by the authorities to prevent people from gathering at the historic Jamia Masjid here for Friday prayers.
Troops were deployed in strength in the city and elsewhere in the Valley with road blocks being put up in key areas.
However, officials at the Police Control Room said no curfew has been imposed and that security has been beefed up to maintain law and order.
Meanwhile, Government offices, educational institutions, shops and business establishments, banks, courts and other institutions remained closed in the city and elsewhere in the Valley for the second consecutive day, they said.
The separatist Coordination Committee had announced that it would "formally" announce their anti-poll campaign and march towards Jamia Masjid in protest against atrocities against Muslims in Jammu in 1947 in the wake of Partition.
Chairman of the moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umer Farooq was placed under house arrest on Wednesday, while most of the leaders of the Coordination Committee and other separatists have been detained.
