Three infiltrators killed on LoC, security tightened in Poonch
Four ultras gunned down in Doda

Jammu, Nov 7: Averting a possible tragedy in the poll-bound frontier district of Poonch, security forces killed three militants who were trying to infiltrate through the Line of Control even as security has been upped in entire region.
Reports reaching here said, three militants were killed when security forces today foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in Sabjian area of Poonch district. Troops noticed a group of militants sneaking into Indian side via CRP Dhok area of Sabjian sub-sector in Poonch district in wee hours, they said.
Border Security Force and army deployed in the area challenged the militants who opened fire, the sources said, adding the troops also retaliated. Three militants have been killed in the exchange of fire, they said. A naib subedar was injured in the encounter and hospitalised.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in the border district of Poonch, ahead of the seven-phase polls beginning from November 17.
Soon after the announcement of the election dates, the Election Commission had said that there would be a massive deployment of security forces across the region during the polls. Around 70 companies of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been deployed in Poonch District alone.
"The Border Security Force (BSF) companies along with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are here to help the Jammu and Kashmir Government, said A.K.S. Bhadauria, Assistant Commander, Border Security Force (BSF). Our aim is to help them conduct free and fair elections," Bhadauria added.
Thirty-seven candidates are going to fight for the three assembly constituencies of Poonch district, which is going to the polls in the first phase of elections.
Polling officers said that security arrangements are being reviewed on a regular basis to ensure free and fair elections in the state.
Mohammad Afzal Butt, election officer of Poonch District said that as of now the security forces are helping in peaceful campaigning of the polls and other poll related activity.
"As far as the election security is concerned, 70 companies of CRPF would be deployed. But ahead of the elections, the CRPF is being used to carry out peaceful campaigning by the various political parties," said Butt.
Meanwhile, security forces have gunned down four Militants including a self-styled District Commander of Hizbul Mujahideen in an encounter which lasted for hour together in Bagwa area of Draman (Dharosh) in Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir. As per police statement that on specific information about the presence of militants at a hideout in Bagwa area at Draman (Dharosh) under the jurisdiction of PS Dessa. Police party of Doda led by SP (OPS) Doda, Mohan Lal launched a search operation in the area last evening.
"The said area was cordoned and during search operation, the hiding militants opened fire on troops" the statement said adding, in the ensuing encounter, four militants were killed.
Police identified the slain militants as Mukhtar alias Dawood, Mushtaq Ahmed son of Mazmi, Jhangir of Dessa and District Commander Mohammad Shafi alias Hashim Khan of Kotal who according to police was the longest surviving militant and active since 1993.
"The killing of these militants is a great success to the Police forces, as it will give a sever blow to the outfit in the area" the spokesman claimed, adding 3 AK Rifles, one Chinese Pistol, one Alinco wireless set and 5 AK Magazines were recovered from the site of encounter.
On the other hand Defence Spokesman claimed that the operation was carried by the troops of 10 Rashtriya Rifles under the aegis of 4 Sector RR, Delta Force.
In a statement issued this evening, the spokesman claimed that on specific information, troops of 10 Rashtriya Rifles under the aegis of 4 Sector RR, Delta Force killed four HM militants including District Commander Hashim Khan in general area Doda.
"The identity of other slain militants is being ascertained", he said adding 3 AK Rifles and one Pistol has been recovered from the slain militants.
