Jugal for cultivating a real perception of RD functioning on ground
Ensure proper maintenance of public assets-Javeed to officers

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 13 – Minister for Rural Development Mr. Jugal Kishore has said that a massive campaign be launched in the state for popularizing real perception of functioning of Rural Development Department and awaring the people about the various welfare schemes launched in the state to ameliorate the socio-economic condition of rural people.
The Minister was addressing during a conference of Rural Development and Panchayats held here on Wednesday.
He asked the officers of Rural Development Department and Rural Engineering wing to work in close coordination for ensuring timely completion of the Rural Development works and maximizing the benefits of the welfare schemes. He also called for identifying the deserving beneficiaries under BPL category to be covered under various welfare schemes aimed at improving their life standard. He also called for empowering the panchayats and involving them in the formulation of plans, execution and monitoring of the rural development works, besides maintaining the assets created in rural areas.
Minister of State for Rural Development Mr. Javeed Mustafa Mir while addressing the conference underscore the need for proper maintenance and utilization of the assets created in rural areas. He also suggested for avoiding delay of payments for the works done and timely supply of material for construction of model villages.
It was said that 65 model villages are under construction under Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Programme and so far Rs 5.05 crore have been spent on these against an allocation of Rs 36.80 crore, while as under IAY and Rural Housing Scheme 2046 low cost dwelling units have been constructed at a cost of Rs 2.39 crores. Likewise under SGSY Rs 4.32 crore have been earmarked for the current financial year and so far 84 SHGs with 589 members have been set up in Kashmir division. It was said that 50,000 BPL families have been identified under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in Kupwara district and so far 48942 job cards have been issued to the beneficiaries and Rs 5 crore have been spent on various works taken up under the scheme.
While interacting with the Additional Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners Development and District Panchayat Officers, Mr. Jugal Kishore and Mr. Javeed Mustafa Mir sought details of various programmes under implementation in the department and achievements registered so far. They also got appraisal of the problems confronting the staff and officers of the department and said that measures would be initiated to mitigate them.
Earlier, Director Rural Development Kashmir Mr. M. A. Bukahri gave a resume of the functioning of the department and hoped that the department would make a more positive headway in achieving the targets.
Secretary Rural Development Department Mr. M. S. Khan, Director Rural Sanitation, all Additional Deputy Commissioners, all Assistant Commissioners Development of Valley and Ladakh and District Panchayats Officers attended the conference.
