| CPI (M) releases list of 5 candidates, to contest Kathua seat | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 8- The CPI (M) sprang a surprise when it announced to contest the Kathua seat in the coming election. It is for the first time that the CPIM is fielding a party candidate from Kathua constituency. It has given the mandate to one Mohinder Singh, who was a lecturer. The party today released the first list of its five candidates for the seven phase assembly elections in the Jammu and Kashmir beginning from 17 th of this month. A spokesman of the party said the names of the candidates were selected by the party, which had two members in the 87-member dissolved house. He said while the party has repeated Mohammed Khalil Naik from Wachi constituency, it has decided to field Ghulam Nabi Malik from Dooru, Mohammad Yaqoob Ganie from Devsar and Mohammad Amin Dar from Homshalibugh assembly segments in South Kashmir. Mahinder Singh has been given the mandate from Kathua segment, he said, adding the second list of party nominees would be released in a couple of days. Tarigami is expected to seek reelection from Kulgam constituency. In 2002 the CPIM had won two seats. It had supported the Congress-PDP coalition Government from outside. When Mufti Mohammed headed the coalition Government in 2002, he had offered a cabinet seat to M.Y.Tarigami which he had declined as the party politburo had not given permission for joining the cabinet. The Mufti had even approached senior CPIM leaders in Delhi but they refused to allow Tarigami to join the cabinet.
