| Red Ribbon Express attracts students, residents at Jammu railway station | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Nov 9: The Red Ribbon Express, spreading awareness about HIV/AIDS, is attracting large rush of school kids, NCC cadets and local residents eager to know more about the disease at Jammu railway station.
The exhibition was inaugurated at a simple but impressive ceremony on Sunday morning by Commissioner Secretary Health Atal Dullo. Several other senior state government and railway authorities, including Director Health Dr Jasbir Singh and Project Director State AIDS Preventive Control Society Dr MA Wani were also present on the occasion.
The seven coach exhibition on wheels will remain stationed at the Jammu railway station for next two days and will help health workers to impart training to common masses on board special train.
The train is equipped with educational material (primarily on HIV/AIDS), interactive touch screens, an LCSD projector and platform for folk performances and counseling cabins for providing counseling.
The Red Ribbon Express was flagged-off from New Delhi by Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss on December 1, AIDS Day and last year. The red ribbon express is expected to cover 23 states and 180 stations before returning to Delhi on December 1, 2009.
Speaking on the occasion Atal Dullo expressed hope that the exhibition on HIV/AIDS will help students better understands facts about the disease. Project Director JKAPCS Dr MA Wani said that large number of school going children attended the exhibition and showed keen interest in learning more about HIV/AIDS. He urged people from all walks of life to visit the Jammu railway station along with kids to spread more awareness and dispel myths attached with the disease. Students shared their first hand experience after going through the entire exhibition. We were impressed with presentation and charts onboard Red Ribbon express, Manoj Rathore, a 10 class student who accompanied his parents to Jammu railway station said. |
