11/14/2021 11:20:58 PM

Jammu, Nov 14: Notwithstanding tall claims repeatedly made by the J&K government in media, a team of experts deputed by the Union Government was unhappy with steps taken by the local authorities in tackling dengue in the Union Territory in general and Jammu province in particular.
Highly placed sources said that during its to visit the worst affected areas of Jammu province, the team observed that except for the publicity nothing concrete was done on the grounds.
After conducting a visit to different areas of Jammu province, the team would submit its report to the Union Health Ministry. The first time after 2014 Jammu district has crossed all records to dengue cases thanks to the casual approach of the authorities.
Sources further said that the J&K administration has taken dengue very casually and except giving advertisements in the selective media no serious step was taken during monsoon to tackle the situation.
In the Jammu region, dengue cases have almost touched the figure of 1500 with the Jammu district is worst affected as the administration failed to take preventive measures.
After the unprecedented spike in dengue cases in Jammu province, especially in Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts, a central team headed by Dr. Mahesh Chandra Kaushik, Consultant of National Vector Borne Disease Control Program, visited here to take stock of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
The team visited the most-affected Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts and also interacted with the people, and enquired about the steps taken to prevent dengue.
He was accompanied by Dr. Shazia, Regional Director of Jammu and Kashmir, and Dr. Belu Sharma, State Malaria Officer.
Dr. Kaushik stressed making people aware of the prevention of dengue. The team also visited New Plot, Sarwal, and Jammu-based Government Medical College and Hospital, Sarwal Hospital, and inspected the wards made for treating the patients.
Experts also reviewed all the arrangements made in treating dengue patients.
The team also visited the houses of some locals and made them aware to prevent the disease like not to keep water tanks open, and not allowing stagnant water.
Sources said that team expressed its unhappiness over fogging conducted by the authorities in the congested areas of Jammu city.
The team also visited the Samba, and Govindsar area of Kathua, which is one of the most-affected areas in the district. The team emphasized cleanliness in the area and asked for fogging.
