| Hoteliers demand compensation for agitation losses | | | EARLY TIME REPORT
JAMMU, Nov 9: All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association (AJHLA) has expressed anguish over non-implementation of the agreement reached by the government with SAYSS, in respect of giving compensation to various section of traders, for the losses suffered by them during Jammu agitation.
As per press release hoteliers association which held its meeting today under the chairmanship of its president, Inderjeet Khajuria, has rued that despite in detail break wise losses suffered by them have been submitted to the director tourism, who had called a meeting of the representatives of various trade organisations connected with tourism and pilgrimage and had asked them to submit the details of losses, but nothing in the matter has been done and the meeting of the working group to settle the claims has not been held.
Now with the announcement of assembly elections, the government can take the execuse that in view of election code of conduct in operation, the compensation for losses cannot be disbursed. But since the delay in the matter has been on the part of the government, the governor should convene a meeting of all the political parties and the parties should unanimously decide in this regard, and the governor should approach the election commission India to allow the government to disburse compensation, the commitment about which has already been made before the announcement of elections.
The association expressed deep resentment over prolonged power cuts, on the plea that power tariff meters damaged during agitation should be installed by the consumers on their own. But the consumers whose meters were damaged are not at fault in the matter, since the same were damaged by some mischievous elements, who should be identified and punished for the act, while the consumer in general should to be penelised. Khajuria told the meeting that their deputation which had called on the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu was assured that the area where hotels and lodges are located, right from Jewel Chowk to bus stand and Hari Market and Sundar Singh Road will be spared from power cuts, particularly during the night hours. But even after one week of that power curtailment continuous to be effected for nine and half hour daily, including in the night hours.
