| BJP begins with Havana | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 9: Finding itself on the weak pitch due to internal dissentions and rebellion in organization, the Bhartiya Janta Party today kicked off its election campaign with Havana (a Hindu ritual of special prayers) at its party quarters. BJP has been riding high on the sentiments agitated by Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti but close to elections the party found the ground slipping beneath its feet due to internal dissentions and plunging into fray of all those parties and individuals which are certain to eat up its vote bank. Former Himanchal Pradesh Chief Minister Shanta Kumar, incharge of elections in Jammu and Kashmir Sunday attended series of meetings with party workers and discussed issues related to poll campaign. He also participated in havan ceremony organized at party headquarters. The havan ceremony was attended by state BJP chief Ashok Khajuria and several other senior party leaders. Talking to reporters after performing the havan, Shanta Kumar said, "BJP will emerge front runner in the polls and will play crucial role in government formation. Kumar said people in Jammu region facing neglect at the hands of Kashmiri rulers for past sixty years were frustrated and gave vent to their ire at the time of agitation over Amarnath land transfer row. He said apart from religious sentiments the discrimination faced by the people of Jammu region was driving people out of their houses and the anger spilled on to the streets. Meanwhile BJP candidate from Gandhi Nagar constituency Prof Nirmal Singh has started door to door canvassing to build campaign in his favour. He is also meeting local resident in his constituency and listening to their genuine grievances while addressing small public meetings. Prof Singh is mostly focusing his election speeches on misrule of Congress –PDP coalition government and is seeking votes in favour of BJP to improve its tally and tilt the power balance in favour of political parties belonging to Jammu region. On Sunday he inaugurated election office in posh Trikuta Nagar and urged workers to work unitedly for better election results. |
