Everester Ram Singh presented Rs one lakh cheque by Tawi Trekkers

JAMMU, Nov 09: Mountaineer, Ram Singh Slathia was today felicitated by his club, Tawi Trekkers for scaling the highest peak on earth—the Mount Everest.The proud son of the soil was presented a cheque of Rs one lakh by president of the Club, Sumant Singh Jamwal amidst cheers from the packed hall of Amar Singh Club, here this evening.

Another mountaineer from the state, Sajjad Haider, who could not make it to the peak, was also honoured for his attempt on the Everest.

“I’m delighted to receive the honour and love shown by my Club—Tawi Trekkers. It gives one immense satisfaction when appreciations come from very own people that too in a very affectionate manner,” expressing his feelings, Ram Singh told SAN.

“I hope the younger generations would inspire from the feet achieved by Ram Singh. The unique achievement of the young man will go a long way in encouraging the boys and girls from the state to aim at scaling the Mount Everest,” general secretary of the Club and man behind adventure sports in J&K, Ram Khajuria said.

Another distinguished achiever felicitated on the occasion was Harjot Kour for hes feat of representing the country in the 7th Asian Youth Climbing Championship held in Japan recently. She was presented a memento along with Shivani Raj Kaith, the national champion in Sport Climbing.

In the same function, the state sport climbing team for the 14th National Sport Climbing Championship was accorded a send off by the Club. The team: Harjot Kour, Shvani Raj Kaith, Anjali Adhikari, Bhavna Sharma, Rohini Chib, Princy Choudhary, Rajeev Sharma, Anil Kumar, Ashish Kapoor and Akshay Kumar.

Earlier, Ram Khajuria, in his welcome address appraised the gathering of the activities being conducted by the Club. He also introduced all the outstanding climbers of the club and counted their achievements.

Prominent among others present were parents of Ram Singh, O P Padha, Dr Shyam Magotra, Anil Choudhary, Ms Happy Choudhary, Pooja Sharma, Arti Sharma, Ramesh Khajuria, Rahul Sharma, Vivek Chauhan, Yogeshwar Kumar, Dr C K Khajuria, Dr Sanjay Bhat, Ram Raj Sharma, Dr Narinder Bhutial and Sumit Khajuria.
