| Free movement of people, goods across-LoC soon: Mufti | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT KULGAM, Nov 10: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has said the opening of Srinagar-Muzafarabad and Poonch-Rawalakote roads for trade would generate new economic activity in the State as there would be free movement of people and goods on these roads in near future. "During my recent meeting with the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, I was assured that the hassles in the free exchange of people and goods through the cross-LoC routes would be done away with soon to make the process purposeful," Sayeed said while addressing a day-long convention of the PDP workers here today. "I told the Prime Minister that if restrictions on the cross-LoC movement of people and goods are not eased immediately, this significant CBM would lose its essence, leading, once again, to public cynicism and disillusionment," Sayeed said and added that acknowledging his concern in this regard, the Prime Minister assured him of speedy and constructive action on the issue in the coming days. "I am confident of positive action, at the highest level, towards facilitating hassle-free movement of people and goods across the LoC, not only through Srinagar-Muzafarabad and Poonch-Rawalakote, but Suchetgarh-Sialkote, Kargil-Skardu, Jhanjar-Mirpur and Bandipora-Gurez-Gilgit roads as well," Sayeed said and added that he has also taken up with the concerned authorities the issue of speedy restoration of telecommunication links between the two parts of the State to facilitate greater social and economic exchange. Sayeed said, PDP's efforts, both in and outside the Government, have been, along with ensuring general relief to the people on the security and development front, to generate new economic activity that integrates the State with the new market economy developing in the region. He said PDP's Self-Rule offers a viable framework for the amicable settlement of the Kashmir issue encompassing both the bilateral and the internal dimensions of the problem. PDP leaders Abdul Aziz Zargar, Abdul Rehman Veeri, Mohammad Sartaj Madni, Abdul Gaffar Sofi and Nazir Ahmad Laway also addressed the convention. |
