| Web awaits presence of J&K’s new districts | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 10: Eight new districts, four each in Jammu and Kashmir regions, formed up by the Ghulam Nabi Azad led coalition government in July 2006 are still invisible in the world of internet. More than two years have passed but National Informatics Centre (NIC), the nodal agency responsible for maintaining the websites and uploading the information, is clueless with regard to creating separate websites for these eight new districts on the pattern of existing districts. On the other hand senior district authorities are still facing acute shortage of manpower and resources for conducting day to day business of various departments in newly formed districts. Several senior district officers across four new districts set up in Jammu region shared their personal experiences and highlighted shortfalls in their districts. “We do not have enough manpower at district headquarters to smoothly run over routine work how we can expect NIC to launch websites for these new districts. Like us they must have been waiting for the government approval and funds to start working on the project”, a senior district officer in Samba said. It may be mentioned that National Informatics Centre is maintaining websites of all the districts but it is yet to design websites for eight new districts. In the absence of information easily available on the internet several people logging on to the internet find it difficult to extract relevant information about these new districts. |
