Create new administrative units in deserving areas: PDP
7/10/2006 9:47:44 PM
Srinagar, July 10: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded creation of more tehsils and sub-divisions in the State to meet the long-pending demand of the people from various deserving areas.

A large number of people from Beerwa (Budgam), Sumbal Sonawari, Litter (Pulwama), Harmain (Shopian), Frisal (Anantnag) called on the PDP President, Ms Mehbooba Mufti here today demanding creation of tehsils and sub-sub-divisions in their respective areas.

Responding to their demand, Ms Mufti said she would ask the Government to consider the demand on merits and carve out new tehsils and sub-divisions on priority in the deserving areas that have been left out in the recent exercise. She said the Coalition Government is committed to equitable development and administrative justice with all the regions and sub-regions of the State and in this case also same parameters would be followed.

Ms Mufti said, immediately after the Coalition Government took over in October 2002, the process for creation of new administrative units including districts, sub-divisions, tehsils, development blocks, Niabats, educational zones etc was initiated as no such exercise had been undertaken in the State for the past several decades. She said since then a continued process for creation of new administrative units is going on in a phased manner. She said while most of the areas have already benefited from the exercise with the creation of new administrative units, similar demands from other deserving areas have to be taken care of so that the people there do not feel neglected.

Ms Mufti said sticking to its commitment of equitable development; the Coalition Government would address the demand of the people for creation of new administrative units to meet the urges and aspirations of the people from all the areas.
