Early Times Report

Sunderbani, Nov 29: In an apparent case of dereliction of duty, a Junior Engineer in Rural Development Department (RDD) Sunderbani is accused of allegedly remaining unauthorizedly absent from duties.
According to sources in the department, the JE, who happens to be from Jammu and is posted in Sunderbani, hardly visits his office and comes once in two weeks to mark his attendance in the official register.
“He has been confronted by the public a number of times, but nothing budges this Junior Engineer. Last time when he was approached by some people for official work, he was not in the office,” said sources, adding that irritated by such an approach of the officer, they visited the office of Block Development Officer (BDO). When the matter was brought to the notice of BDO, he immediately called him on mobile phone. On his query, JE was insincere enough to claim that he is on field visit. It is pertinent to mention here that a complaint in this regard has already been made with ACD by the Sarpanches and Panches.
Talking to Early Times, ACD admitted that he had received a complaint in this regard and will initiate an inquiry in this matter soon.
When tried to contact the accused Junior Engineer, he disconnected the call and texted that he is busy in a meeting, but did not call back till this report was filed in the evening.
Locals of the area have also filed a complaint with the RDD Director Rajouri, who has also assured action against the erring officer.
Meanwhile, locals have urged the Lieutenant Governor’s administration to take a strict action against such officers who despite enjoying salaries from the public exchequer are delinquent in providing services.
