STC lifts Volleyball championship trophy

UDHAMPUR, SEPTEMBER 13 -Week long Volley Ball championship organized by Volley Ball Association of District Udhampur started from September 7, 2006 concluded at Mini-Stadium, today with participation of 15 teams hailing from different parts of the district in the contest.
The championship trophy was bagged by volleyball team of Sports Training Centre (STC), Udhampur defeating City Volley Ball Club (Red) by 3-1 goals.
The other teams who took part in the championship trophy included volleyball teams from Ramnagar, Chirayai, HSS Boys, Udhampur, Youth Services and Sports Housing Colony, Raja Volley Ball Club, Udhampur, Tikri Volley Ball Club, Omara Volley Ball Club, District Police team and Happy Model School, Udhampur.
The Senior Superintendent of Police, Udhampur, Mr. P. R. Manhas was the chief guest while Addl. DDC Udhampur, Mr. Khurshid Ahmed Bhat was guest of honour on the occasion.
Principal, Boys PG College, Dr. A.S. Rishi, President, Indian Style Wrestling Association, Mr. Shiv Kumar Sharma, DYSSSO, Udhampur, Mr. Ashok Kumar, President, District Volley Ball Association, Udhampur, Mr. Raj Guru, Honorary Secretary of the Association, Mr. Ashok Padha, Veteran sports persons namely, Mr. Pritam Kotwal, Mr. Roshan Lal, Mr. Bhushan Sethi, Mr. Pardeep Chopra and Mr. Kuldeep Singh were also present on the occasion.
The efforts put in by the players of STC especially Mr. Rakesh, Mr. Sanjay, Mr. Rohit and Mr. Illiyas and the players of City Volley Ball Club, Udhampur, Mr. Shashi, Mr. Amit and Mr. Deepak got loud appreciation of the sports lovers and audience present on the occasion for their exemplary performance.
The winners and runners up team players were awarded trophies by the SSP on the occasion. Outstanding players of the tournament were also honoured.
Speaking on the occasion, the SSP lauded the efforts of organizers of the tournament and efforts put in by the players in the finals. He said that a Volleyball match would also be organized in the Police Lines in near future.
The President of the Association, Mr. Raj Guru said that his association is trying its level best to boost the morale of sports persons and said more such tournaments would be held in rural areas to expose the talent of budding sports persons.
Mr. Ashok Kumar and Mr. Vijay Kumar acted as referees in the final match.
