| Vohra asks youth to inculcate camaraderie spirit | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 11: Stressing the importance of all possible initiatives to inculcate the spirit of camaraderie, discipline and social service among children, the Governor N N Vohra maintained that this was imperative for channelizing the energies of youth to secure the goals of nation building. Interacting with a batch of the J&K Bharat Scouts and Guides, here this morning, the Governor said that scouting had emerged as a global movement and every endeavor must be made for involving the youth of Jammu and Kashmir in this activity on the largest possible scale. The Governor assured strong governmental support in organizing scouting camps in Jammu and Srinagar with a focused attention on sharpening the inherent potential of youth to render community service. He said such meets will go a long way in fostering brotherhood and harmony among the youth and strengthens national integration. Pinning high hopes on the youth of the state, the Governor expressed his optimism that they will play their important role in bringing about complete harmony in the society. Briefing the Governor about the scouting activities, the State Commissioner, Bharat Scouts and Girl Guides, I D Soni, said that the number of Scouts in the State had touched 16,000 and 7000 of them being Guides. He said that scouting is an important non-formal education activity which is attracting a sizable number of youth in the State. He also referred to the training being imparted to Scouts and Guides at the school level, and during the Camps. He said that the Police Department has been instrumental in providing valuable support for camps being organized at Srinagar and Jammu. On the occasion, the scouts presented Flag Day stickers to the Governor, who made a symbolic contribution to the Fund. He also gave a personal prize of Rs 100 to Sanviksha Badyal, a Class Ist student of Lawrence Public School, and a bunny Guide, who recited a poem for the Governor Vohra also feted a reception for the children, for most of whom it was a unique experience to visit the Raj Bhavan. Wing Commander (Retd) M M Joshi, Zonal Commissioner, Nasreen Khan, State Commissioner, Girl Guides and E William, Guides, were also present on the occasion. |
