| ‘Blacked out’ industrialists threaten dharna | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 11: The industrial sector in Jammu and Kashmir is reeling under severe power crises and despite repeated meetings with the PDD and assurances for smooth power supply to the Industrial units the ground reality is all together different. The tripping in a single shift varies from 5 to 10. The power which is a life line for the entire industry is being supplied in phases, forcing the industries to close their shops; the industrialists said and resolved to launch a protest dharna outside the Civil Secretariat if this situation continued. The industrialists, at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Rakesh Bhat, took strong exception to the deviation of the assurances of uninterrupted power supply and warned to go in for a strike including holding a protest dharna outside the Civil Secretariat. The meeting observed that while the entire country is reeling under financial crisis; the interrupted power supply has largely hit the industries in Jammu and Kashmir. Industry that employs so many people and faces the burden of the government will have a cascading effect on the entire trade and commerce, the meeting felt. The present infrastructure that the Power Development Department has in Bari Brahmana is so poor that the panels which were burnet down since years have not been replaced despite our various requests to the department. Due to lack of communication between various wings of the department there is no proper power shut down schedule which hampers the production. |
