Srinagar, Dec 5: Higher reaches received fresh spell of snowfall, while rain lashed plains in Kashmir on Sunday.
The minimum temperature rose above the freezing point in Srinagar after over a week.
It was raining over plains of Kashmir and snowing over middle and upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir when this report was filed.
Director Meteorological Department Kashmir, Sonam Lotus said that Drass-Kargil area and over higher reaches of Kashmir received fresh snowfall and rains in plains of Kashmir including Srinagar since early morning.
He however said that light rainfall and snowfall is expected to continue till 12 to 18 hours, however, there is no forecast of any major snowfall in the region.
He said that weather is most likely to improve from Monday onwards, while light rains in the plains and light snowfall in the upper reaches will continue till Monday.
Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Gurez valley, Mahu valley in Banihal receives fresh snowfall, officials said. A meteorological department official told that mercury in Srinagar was below previous night’s 0.6°C.
Qazigund recorded a minimum temperature of 3.4°C and Pahalgam recorded 2.7°C. Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded 2.3°C.
Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir, recorded a minimum of minus 1.4°C against minus 1.5°C on the previous night, the official said.
Ladakh’s Leh recorded a low of minus 6.4°C against last night.
