| No politicking, no complacency: Vohra to officials | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 11: A day after Government’s arrival in Jammu, the Governor NN Vohra today took a whirlwind tour of the poll bound twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch with clear and express instructions to his men –no violation of poll conduct and no complacency in security apparatus. Vohra exhorted the State Administration to strictly adhere to the model Code of Conduct, leaving no scope for deviation from the laid down norms. Reviewing the overall security arrangements obtaining in the border districts of Poonch and Rajouri this morning, the Governor said that no complaint in this regard will be acceptable, as the Administration is required to maintain total impartiality for ensuring free and fair conduct of the Elections. The Governor also stressed the need for close synergy between various Security Forces for instilling confidence among the people, who are going to exercise their right to franchise during the seven-phased ensuing Assembly elections. Vohra reviewed the security apparatus with the senior officers of the Civil Administration, Police, Central Police and the Army. He particularly discussed all the logistical concerns like accommodation, transport, medical services, communication system, food supplies etc for the Security Forces and the civilian staff deployed on poll duties. He urged the District Administration to extend all necessary support to the functionaries of Election for the smooth conduct of the polls. At Poonch, the Governor was given detailed briefings by the Additional Director General, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Karanjeet Singh, and Deputy Inspector General of Police, Poonch-Rajouri Range, Dr Kamal Saini, about the security scenario while the Deputy Commissioner, Mohammed Afzal, dwelt on the overall scenario. The Governor was given a presentation of the overall situation in the Rajouri district by the Deputy Commissioner, Sheikh Rafiq Ahmed and the District Superintendent of Police, Mr Rajesh Kumar. Vohra was informed Media Centres have also been planned for the two districts and district level committees have been constituted to oversee the model Code of Conduct. Meanwhile, the two border districts of the Jammu region are witnessing unprecedented enthusiasm and fervour, with the contestants and the political parties moving around from dawn to dusk to reach out to their supporters. Loud speaker fitted vehicles, public rallies and door-to-door canvassing is gaining momentum as the dates for the Elections are coming nearer. In Rajouri district, 454 polling stations would be established in the four constituencies for an electorate of 3,50,424. In all 65 candidates are in the fray in the district with the largest number of 24 candidates in Rajouri Assembly Constituency, followed by 16 in Kalakote, 13 in Darhal and 12 in Nowshera constituency. In the Poonch district, 353 polling stations would be set up for an electorate of 2,60,565 in the three constituencies of Surankote, Mendhar and Haveli. The Governor also discussed developmental issues with the respective District Development Commissioners. The Principal Secretary to Governor, Mr B B Vyas, accompanied the Governor during his visit to the two border districts. |
