| Kar hits Congress where it hurts | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 11: Looking at Congress party’s profile in Jammu and Kashmir, names of three veterans naturally come to mind –Saif-ud-Din Soz, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ghulam Rasool Kar. In organizational context, Kar’s name comes first and then Azad’s and Soz’s. While Soz and Azad are yet to mark their presence at the election scene, Kar has fired the embarrassing salvo at Congress. The all time veteran, the former president of the Pradesh Congress Committee, Ghulam Rasool Kar has revolted against the party and seeking election as an independent candidate from Sopore constituency in Barmulla district. Kar is among those Congress leaders who put a front in Kashmir during all years of militancy, particularly between 1990 and 1996 –when Congress flag was the last thing to be seen in the Valley. Many within and outside the party describe him as man of organization. The veteran Congress leader was asking for ticket from the Sopore constituency which in 2002 was represented by Haji Abdul Rashid of Congress. Party preferred to give second chance to Rashid without considering Kar for any other constituency. “Yes I am contesting election as independent candidate as the party betrayed”, said Kar. He added, I was promised ticket but I did not find my name in the list and was never spoken to by any senior leader on this account”. |
