Valley gets Army schools

PAHALGAM, Nov 12: General Deepak Kapoor, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) at an impressive function today dedicated the Army Goodwill Public School, Pahalgam to the children of Jammu and Kashmir. The COAS was accompanied by Kirti Kapoor, President Army Wives Welfare Association. Lieutenant General PC Bhardwaj, Army Commander Northern Command, Deepa Bhardwaj, President Army Wives Welfare Association Northern Command, Lieutenant General Mukesh Sabharwal, General Officer Commanding 15Corps and Major General Kishan Singh, General Officer Commanding Victor Force were also present on the occasion.
Conceptualized in 2004 in concert with the State Government, the school was constructed at a cost of Rs 12.43 crores in two years and the first academic session commenced in July 2008.
The school is a co-educational residential senior secondary school providing the children of Jammu and Kashmir an environment suited for wholesome growth. The school aims to be an institution of excellence, dedicated to the children of Jammu and Kashmir, to develop them into responsible citizens and leaders by imparting quality education in an environment which is caring stimulating and challenging.
While reinforcing the commitment of the Indian Army towards peace, prosperity and development of the state, COAS urged teachers to instill in children, a sense of curiosity and thirst for knowledge so that they can live up to the schools motto of knowledge, wisdom, character. He said that armed with certainty rightfulness and courage citizens of tomorrow can face the challenges that lie ahead.
Quoting the mission of education as enunciated by former President, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, General Kapoor said that when learning is purposeful, creativity blossoms, when creativity blossoms, thinking emanates, when thinking emanates, knowledge is fully lit ; Economy flourishes.
Kirti Kapoor, President Army Wives Welfare Association very graciously presented carefully selected books worth rupees one lakh to the school library. During her interaction with the students she emphasized the importance of inculcating healthy reading habit in pursuit of knowledge.
