| Mubarak Gul escapes ‘bid’ on life | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Nov 12: In a first such attack since the announcement of election date, National Conference's successful candidate in 2002, Mubarak Gul on Wednesday afternoon escaped a militant attack on his life near M R gunj area in the downtown of city. Sources said that Mubarak Gul had gone to the residence of party's 'Halka' president Mohammad Yousuf Siraj in Chamar Doori locality when militants hurled a grenade towards the house of later at around 3:30 hours. The grenade, however, exploded in the compound of the adjoining house, sources said. No casualties were reported while window panes of the house were damaged. Gul is National Conference nominee from Eidgah constituency where he won two consecutive elections. This is the first militant attack on any political leaders since the seven stage polls beginning November 17 were announced in the state last month. |
