| 3 women among 11 dead in Doda mishap, 8 injured | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 12: In yet another gruesome accident in Doda district, second major in three weeks, at least eleven people were killed and around fifteen others were injured, eight of them critically, when a overloaded mini-bus veered off the road and fell into a deep gorge near Prem Nagar, 18 Kms from Doda on Jammu-Kishtwar National Highway. The ill-fated mini-bus was on its way from Thathri to Pul Doda in the mountainous Doda district when it met with the accident at Karara, near Prem Nagar at around 2:45 PM. Official sources said that at least twenty-six passengers were traveling in the mini-bus (JK06 0743) which met with the accident. Locals and police immediately swung into action and launched a rescue operation. Sources said that nine persons died on the spot, while two others were drowned in the mighty Chinab. The two passengers, who were drowned in the river, were also feared dead as all attempts to rescue them failed. Police said that attempts were now being made to fish out the two bodied from the river. Deceased have been identified as Rehana banoo, 19, daughter of Ghulam Mustafa, Nai Basti Karara; Shareena Banoo, 18, daughter of Ghulam Mustafa, resident of Nai Basti Karara; Rashida Banoo, 23, daughter of Muhammad Sabir, resident of Gulmona Prem Nagar; Nazir Ahmed, 30, son of Ghulam Qadir, resident of Shadiwan Charote; Suresh Singh, 23, son of Chain Singh, resident of Jagota; Koushal Kumar, 40, son of Gori Lal, resident of Kaila Thathri; Kuldeep, 32, son of Shib Lal, resident of Parshola; Charan Dass, 28, son of Chuni Lal, resident of Kariri Mohalla and Anand Sharma, 36, son of Gulab Chand, resident of Near bus Stand Udhampur. The identification of the two persons, who were drowned in the river could not be ascertained immediately. Sources said that at least fifteen passengers were shifted to Doda hospital, from where eight of them were air lifted to GMC Hospital Jammu. The passengers, who were shifted to Jammu in critical condition, were identified as Khursha beguma (50 yr) W/O Ghulam Paray R/o Gundna, Arun Sharma S/o Tirath Ram Sharma R/o Thellela, Jamsheed S/O Sonaullah R/O Gurmul (Driver), Ashwani S/O DM Sharma R/O Udhampur (Age 38 yrs), Babli Devi W/o Tirath Ram R/O Badra Guri Gowari, Abdul Rehman S/o Abdul Satar R/O Thellela, Iftikhar Adil S/O Abdul Rashid R/o Shiva, Raj Nath S/o Guru Charan Singh R/O Varanasi (UP). The injured who were undergoing treatment at Doda hospital were Gulshana Begum W/o Ghulam Paray R/o Gundna, Jia Lal S/o Hem Raj R/o Ludna, Gulzar Begum W/o Abdul Hamid R/o Thellela, Ghulam Mohammad S/o mehar Din R/o Bharath, Karan Singh S/o Shanker lal R/O Shakla Balara, Aneet Singh S/o Puran Chand R/O Puneja and Rajeshwar Singh S/O Ram Lal R/O Suil Bandas The road mishaps were on rise in mountainous Doda and Kishtwar districts and more than a hundred passengers have lost their lives in the accidents this year. Ironically the over-loaded mini-bus met with the accident just near the Traffic Check-post Karara, who failed to check the over-loading, a local resident Tarseem Lal told News Agency of Kashmir. Another reason of such frequent grave accidents is the poor condition of the Doda-Kishtwar Road which is being maintained by GREF. The condition of the road is such that there was not even a single parapet at the site of today's accident. |
