| In the face of fury, poll fever in South Kashmir at low key | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Nov 13: With three big attacks on the poll rallies of political parties, the poll fever in twin districts of South Kashmir is at low ebb, leaving parties in a struggle to make the rallies festive with peoples' presence. Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, the Congress Candidate for Kokernag constituency in the face of peoples’ fury left a rally unaddressed on October 28, when a mob pelted stones at his cavalcade at Badoora, Achabal. Though, Peerzada escaped unhurt in the attack, five vehicles of his cavalcade suffered damage and more than twelve workers were injured in stoning.
Sahar Khandy, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate contesting polls from Kokernag constituency faced her first public wrath on November 2 at Dialgam, when her cavalcade came under a stone pelting attack. The PDP candidate was on way to Dakbunglow, where the party patron, Mufti Mohammad Syed was scheduled to address the poll rally. Some workers of her party were hurt in the stone pelting, sources said. National Conference candidate, Dr. Bashir Ahmad Veeri, on November 11 could not address a gathering, when people at Waghama near Bijbehara forced him stay inside of his vehicle. In spite of the NC candidate's hard efforts to have a room among the residents for his speech, he was not allowed to address the poll rally. As the candidates in fray from various political parties in South Kashmir are apprehensive of the stone pelting incidents, they have chosen to shuck the poll rallies and are addressing workers only in Dakbunglow Khanabal under high security. |
