| Delay in tickets frustrating Congress aspirants | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 13: Aspirants for the congress tickets for the Assembly constituencies in Jammu,Samba and Kathua districts have conveyed their resentment to the party leadership against delay in clearing the list of candidates. This resentment was conveyed after the ticket aspirants came to know that the decision has been deferred till November 17. Number of congress leaders, including Raman Bhalla, today said that in the light of continued delay in clearing the names of the candidate had created difficulties for many a congressmen who planned to contest the election. He said already the National Conference,ther PDP,the BJP and the Panthers Party besides the BSP and others had announced the names of the party candidates for several constituencies. Their candidates had already started campaigning in their respective constituencies. Another senior congress leader said that many among "us" were not knowing whether their names would be cleared or not. He said the party had selected a panel of names for various constituencies and the probable ones were not in a position to kick start their campaign because they do not know who ultimately get the ticket. Citing instances he said it is not yet known whether R.S.Chib or Gharu Ram will be given the mandate for Suchetgarh constituency. It is not known whether Lal Singh or Babu Ram will get the party mandate for Kathua seat.This has caused confusion in the organization. Inside reports said that unanimity over the selection of candidates continues to elude senior congress leaders, including Prof. Saif-yd-Din soz and Ghulam Nabi Azad. Yesterday's meeting which was to finalise the list of congress candidates was postponed because the Congress chairperson,Ms Sonia Gandhi was preoccupied. It is learnt that the Congress high command does not want to commit any mistake by giving mandate to less deserving candidates because wrong choice has already bred dissensions in the party with the result congress rebels have decided to contest the election in various constituencies. |
