| GDC Vijaypur organizes pond cleanliness drive | | |  Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 21: NSS Unit (KHIDMAT and ECO CLUB) of GDC Vijaypur organized a pond cleanliness drive implementing "Clean India Program "under the banner of "Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav". The cleanliness drive was organized around the pond situated in the village Smailpur. NSS Volunteers of the college participated in the cleanliness drive very enthusiastically and also sansitized the masses regarding restoring of water quality. The volunteers carried out cleanliness drive by removing garbage and floating, plastic/ polythene and also created awareness on the spread of water-borne diseases, importance of clean environment, judicious use of ground water and discourage the practice of open dumping. The main motive behind this campaign was to spread awareness related to cleanliness and rejuvenation of water bodies.
Volunteers along with Prof. Poonam Kundan also participated in the awareness campaign regarding cleanliness of water bodies which is considered to be a cost-effective measure to combat the rising water pollution and raised slogans on the theme for spreading awareness on the necessity of clean water as polluting ponds and rivers means extinction of civilization. The whole event was organized by Dr. Sunil Kumar Mangoch (NSS PO) and Prof. Poonam Kundan (Convenor, Ecoclub) under the guidance of Dr. Sangeeta Sudan, Principal of the College. She congratulated the organizers and appreciated the efforts of the volunteers in-sensitizing the society as world is facing water crisis and it is the need of the hour to save and protect our water bodies from any kind of pollutant. |
