| Police Games: J&K Police bag 4 medals | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 13: In the ongoing All India Police Games, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have won four medals, including a silver, in team and individual events in two different clusters held recently. In team events, J&K Police won bronze medal in Handball beating Andhra Pradesh Police 28-18 in the hardliner. Earlier, in the knock-out round of semi-finals, J&K Police lost to Border Security Police (BSF) in a nail-biting finish. Handball event was part of the Volleyball cluster of All India Police Games hosted by Punjab Police at Jullandhar. “State police won a silver medal in Wrestling. Qasim Din lost in the final to finish second in 66 kg weight group,” Sports Officer, J&K Police, Dr Narinder Bhutial told SAN. Other two bronze medals for J&K came in boxing with Raj Kumar and Ravinder Bhushan finishing third in their respective weight groups. While Raj Kumar clinched medal in 48 kg (light weight) category, Ravinder secured bronze medal in Plus 91 kg (heavy weight) group. Part of Wrestling cluster, boxing and wrestling competitions were organized by Haryana Police. Giving more details, Sports Officer said, “The remaining events of athletics, hockey, football and water sports are scheduled to be held in December and February.” While track and field (athletics) events shall be hosted by Uttar Pradesh Police at Lucknow in February, the Hockey Cluster shall take place at Chandigarh in December. Football competitions shall be organized at Nagaland in February. Meanwhile, J&K Police took part in Marathon at Delhi for the first time. “Our runners have excelled in the Half Marathon held recently at Delhi. All three boys, Salu Ram, Parshotam and Ram Raj were among top 30 to fall in the medal category,” informed Dr Bhutial adding, “As against the Indian record of 1.04 hours in Marathon, J&K Police athletes took time between 1.03 to 1.15 hours to finish at number 16, 17 and 18.” |
