| His name arrives on scene, Baig unseen | | PDP clears 7 more faces | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 13: Though former Deputy Chief Minister and senior Peoples Democratic Party leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig is yet to be seen on the scene, the party has cleared his candidature for Barmulla constituency where Baig had won in 2002. The former Deputy Chief Minister was appointed by the party as chairman of mandate committee but he has not been seen around ever since the elections were announced on October 19. While rumours in political circles suggested that Baig had fallen with Muftis but party clarified this saying that the former Deputy Chief Minister is not keeping good health and is on rest. Beig will seek re-election from Baramulla Assembly segment as the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) has approved the names of seven more party candidates for the seven-phase polls in the state starting from November 17. A PDP spokesman said the Parliamentary Committee (PC) which met here today approved the name of Beig for Baramulla constituency, which he won in 2002 elections. The names of other candidates, later confirmed by the PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, included Iftikhar Hussain Ansari from Pattan, former minister Mohammad Dilawar Mir, Rafiabad, Syed Basharat Bukhari, Sangrama, Abdul Khaliq, Sopore, Master Ghulam Mohiudddin Sheikh, Gulmarg and Dr Shabir Mangral, Uri. Mr Ansari earlier lost to NC leader Sheikh Mustafa Kamal in by-elections from the same constituency while Mr Mir is seeking re-election from Rafiabad. All the constituencies will go to polls in the fourth phase on December 17. |
