NC responsible for backwardness of Poonch, Rajouri: Mufti

SURANKOTE, Nov 14: Former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayed today said that his party is seeking mandate of people to facilitate solution of the Kashmir problem and to carry forward the agenda of economic growth and equal development.
Addressing an impressive public meeting at Surankot town in support of party candidate Dr Mumtaz Bukhari, Sayed that PDP had, time and again, made it clear that situation was not conducive for holding assembly elections but the National Conference has forced poll on the people. "National Conference leaders are thinking that less participation of the people in democratic process would help them to grab the power", he said and pointed out that the PDP has decided to join the elections process to protect dignity and honour of the people.
Mufti said that his party was not contesting elections just to attain power but to facilitate the process of a peaceful and dignified resolution of Kashmir.
Recalling formation of PDP in 1999, he said that the regional party was formed to fulfill aspirations and wishes of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and to provide an alternative to National Conference which had failed to ameliorate lot of the masses.
"From 1977 to 2002, it was National Conference which ruled the State through out these years but it failed to deliver good governance to the people", Sayed alleged and asked the gathering to compare performance of the three year coalition regime headed by PDP with the successive governments of National Conference".
Pointing towards backwardness of Poonch and Rajouri districts, Sayed said that National Conference leaders, who represented these two districts, failed to provide basic amenities to the inhabitants of this mountainous belt. He assured the people that PDP, if voted power, would set up regional councils for Poonch and Rajouri.
Party candidate Dr Mumtaz Bukhari and other leaders of the party also addressed the gathering.
