2500 prisoners to vote in elections
11/14/2008 11:05:11 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, Nov 14: Over 2,500 prisoners and detainees, lodged in different jails in the state, will be eligible to exercise their right to franchise through postal ballots in the seven-phase polls starting November 17.
The sources said that the Prison Department has almost finalized the list of the voters in jails and will be submitting these to various district election officers.
"Once the list comes to us, we will provide them with postal ballot so that voters in jails exercise their right of franchise. There would be no voting through electronic voting machines in jails," the officials said.
